Information about the Bodywork

  • "CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on approach that releases tensions deep in the body to relieve pain and dysfunction and improve whole-body health and performance. It was pioneered and developed by Osteopathic Physician John E. Upledger after years of clinical testing and research at Michigan State University where he served as professor of biomechanics."

I use the manual techniques and dialogue learned from the craniosacral courses (and my experience from treating patients in my years as a physical therapist) to listen to your body and provide support, guidance, and promote your body's natural healing process. Every craniosacral therapist has his or her own unique style, and mine is to invite God into our session. I firmly believe that drawing closer to God heals physical and mental dis-ease and supports the best version of oneself.

CST can be helpful for many conditions including (but not limited to) low back pain, neck pain, headaches, dizziness, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, traumatic brain injury and concussions, autoimmune conditions, nervous system disorders, and much more. It is always a good idea to consult with your primary care physician about adjunct treatments for your condition.

  • TherEx (Therapeutic Exercise) Flow is intentionally selected forms of movement designed to stretch and strengthen specific muscle groups based on your anatomy with any diagnosis specific contraindications removed from the practice. These sequences are chosen by a licensed health care provider (me).

Byrd-Rider Rehab trained me in Medical Yoga (different from traditional yoga forms), and I have been a licensed Doctor of Physical Therapy since 2013. I use my knowledge and your body’s inner wisdom to compile movements or positions your body would most benefit from to create a series of exercises for you to practice with me or at home.

TherEx Flow is helpful in increasing flexibility, strengthening muscles, improving balance, improving immune function, correcting posture, improving lung function and breathing, improves joint health and proprioception, improves circulation, promotes weight loss, improves the function of the brain and nervous system, and reduces stress. This is a great tool to get you involved in your healing process.

In theory, there are a number of exercises that should help a certain condition. However, you are a unique individual with your unique past and body binding patterns. "One size fits all" routine isn't as effective therapeutically as an individualized program, set in a one to one class. That being said, if all you have access to is a predesigned program, it's probably better than no exercise.

  • I highly recommend additional self-reflection and time spent in prayer with scripture. If you are a woman, Walking with Purpose is an excellent bible study with many options to choose from. My faith life has grown exponentially since starting these studies. You can also view my videos or YouTube page for meditations with scripture. The Hallow or Discerning Hearts Apps are other great resources for deepening your prayer life.

Taking time to study God’s word can open new doors for you. He may reveal wisdom about something you are currently struggling with, or give you resources to fight a spiritual battle. He may bring an old (or new) wound into the light from which you are ready to heal.

I can help. I’ll walk with you through the pain and support your body as you process the hurt, heal, and become the best version of yourself.

Bible Study and Bodywork may consist of a combination of the following:

-small group/class like meeting to discuss the study and support each other on our journeys

-one on one discussion and bodywork processing time with me

-exercises tailored to your body’s specific needs

-a recorded TherEx Flow routine for you to practice at home

-supportive prayers for your healing process

Like all good things, God showed me the plan for Bible Study & Bodywork.

Because this is His, I am not setting a price for each session.

Instead, I ask that you make an offering for my time at each bodywork session.

I intend to host Bible Study and Bodywork once-twice a year, and the study will vary.

Email me at intothelight373@gmail.com if you are interested in participating in one of these studies!

What does a typical Craniosacral therapy session look like?

I invite you to lay down (fully clothed) on your back. We can use pillows for comfort, or make other accommodations if laying on your back is not comfortable. Peaceful sounds and ambient light help to put your nervous system in a relaxed state, and then we begin listening to your body and providing the support you need in order to promote your natural healing process. My hands gently touch areas of your body and help guide your tissues toward homeostasis-optimal health and function. Sometimes, your body needs your mind to recognize certain things before a trauma can be processed, so we may have a little conversation or dialogue to help link up your mind and body. We can talk as much or as little as you would like, as it is all about your healing process!

What does a typical TherEx Flow look like?

Please come dressed in clothes you can move in, nothing tight or restrictive. I will need to know some things about your body/medical diagnosis to know which particular poses would not be compatible with what your body has going on. Then, we will unroll our mats and get started! I’ll select stretching and strengthening postures and movements catered to your specific needs. If you would like, I can video record the session so you can watch it (and perform it) over and over at home.

These therapies work best in combination

After aligning your tissues with bodywork, we can use TherEx Flow to retrain your body how to work functionally and without pain. Then, you can use this new freedom between sessions to continue building up your best self.
